Quanto può durare un ricordo? Tina se lo chiede ogni sabato, davanti ai vestiti usati che vende per beneficenza. E se lo chiede quando, in una vecchia giacca, trova una lettera non spedita che risale al settembre 1939. Chi saranno mai Chrissie, la destinataria, e Billy, l’uomo che nella lettera implora il suo perdono? Inseguire quel ricordo ingiallito diventa ben presto per Tina l’unico modo per sfuggire a un marito violento e a un’esistenza annegata in un oceano di rimpianti. Tina inizia così a scavare nel passato, intrecciando ricordi arrossati dal sangue della guerra e confusi dalle nebbie del tempo. Inizia a lottare per vivere, finalmente. Perché aggrapparsi a quel ricordo significa scommettere sulla propria felicità.

L’intreccio di due storie in epoche diverse con riferimenti storici che trasportano all’inizio della Seconda Guerra. Due storie che alla fine convergono nello stesso punto restituendo quella felicità negata nel passato. Mi è piaciuto molto!
Due donne che per motivi diversi sono costrette ad essere forti e indipendenti e che nonostante il tempo hanno un destino comune. Un libro emozionante che ti prende fin dalle prime pagine. Una lettera due storie... Un unico grande finale.
I don't understand the number of 4 and 5 star reviews on this novel. I was swayed to buy it by the reviews. But it really is the most lazy kind of writing style and boring to read. It's not the story that's boring, that could be told well, although in this version the characters are one dimensional
4 stars. This was an easy, enjoyable read. While the writing style was very simple, there are some heavy topics covered within this story - domestic violence, rape, a young mother forced to give up her baby.
