It is the first book of this series I laid hand on, and to be honest I was expecting it differently. It didn't really present all the major historical events in a timeline, but took for granted the reader’s familiarity with them and proceeded with deep diving in the context. Wow! I've just finished Hobsbawm's survey of the major historical, political, economic, and cultural developments of the nineteenth century, of which this is the third volume. It was well worth it. This is history that engages you and has something interesting to say. I think this was the best of the Leggi tutto

This was great...now I need to read the two books that come before, "Age of Revolution" and "Age of Capital." I'm doing this all out of order! I think that might be interesting though, to work backwards through the long 19th century rather than forwards. I think the best way to think about this book Leggi tutto
