Una raccolta di racconti brevissimi, 34 in solo 150 pagine, alcuni totalmente astratti, che lasciano il lettore "spiazzato" per la loro fulminante assurdità. Racconti ironici, amari e surreali. I protagonisti sono tutti ispirati al quotidiano della vita israeliana. Una vita ordinaria che però il più delle volte sfuma, si altera, assumendo una dimensione totalmente irreale. Vicende apparentemente semplici si alternano così a racconti che si sviluppano su trame paradossali. Donne dolci e attraenti che si trasformano, nottetempo, in stomachevoli e rumorosi ubriaconi; ragazzi e ragazze che si trovano e si lasciano sullo sfondo di una Tel Aviv appena suggerita; surreali pesci parlanti; demoni dal cuore tenero scoraggiati dalla gentilezza dei loro "clienti"... Tutti i protagonisti sono accomunati dalla forza emotiva, nonostante il diffuso malessere esistenziale.

“Un pensiero a forma di racconto”, il ventiduesimo, è di un’intensità, di una particolarità, di una genialità incredibili; non rimanevo così colpita da una lettura da molto tempo. L’intero libro meriterebbe solo per quello.
I enjoyed Etgar Keret’s short story collection, Suddenly, A Knock on the Door, so it was disappointing to find out The Nimrod Flip-Out isn’t nearly as good.
