La ricerca di Nisha li porterà a scoprire qualcosa su se stessi, e al contempo getterà una luce sulla realtà dei lavoratori stranieri, uomini e donne costretti a lasciare la propria terra in cerca di fortuna e che spesso, come le migliaia di uccelli migratori che Yiannis caccia illegalmente, restano intrappolati in reti da cui è impossibile fuggire. Dopo "L'apicultore di Aleppo", in questo nuovo romanzo forte e delicato al tempo stesso, Christy Lefteri ci parla di legami profondi e di una società spezzata, in cui agli invisibili non rimane che il silenzio. Ma quando le loro voci si alzano all'unisono, è il momento di ascoltare.

while the plot of this story is about a missing woman, the heart of the story is how her disappearance affects those left behind. this isnt really a mystery as much as it is a commentary on women, their (mis)treatment, and how they can influence/touch/inspire those around them. in this case, its how Leggi tutto
I adored The Beekeeper of Aleppo so I was thrilled to see Lefteri had another one out. This is a sad story, however. I should not have liked this book. A missing person, a suspenseful telling and scenes describing the hunting of songbirds are difficult to read - not my usual fare. This book broke me twice. First, the gorgeous, eloquent prose. Secondly, the deeply moving plot. Songbirds, is a heartbreaking story, chronicling the plight of migrant workers.
