Innamoramenti, baruffe, guai, amicizie e rivalità lo accompagnano nella sua avventurosa ricerca che lo porterà alla tanto agognata Shanghai. Umorismo e amarezza, ribellione e rassegnazione si intrecciano nelle esuberanti vicende narrate. Sullo sfondo, la Cina socialista in piena espansione economica.
