Intitolato con molta semplicità "Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy", richiamando il modo usuale dei due comici nel presentarsi al pubblico, il libro uscì in America quando Stan Laurel, il "magro" del duo, era ancora in vita e il suo apporto al testo fu fondamentale. Stan si domandava se esistesse davvero abbastanza gente interessata a leggere una loro biografia. Eppure eccoci qui, a parlare ancora di Stan, di Oliver e di questo libro, la cui prima pubblicazione nel 1961 contribuì in modo notevole alla riscoperta della coppia da parte della critica, che fino a quel momento li aveva sempre considerati personaggi minori. Il pubblico, che invece non li aveva mai sottovalutati, grazie a questo testo scoprì di avere una grande, forte passione comune per questi due amici. Per tale motivo McCabe fondò, con il consenso e l'aiuto di Laurel, un'associazione che riunisse tutti i loro estimatori, il cui nome proviene da uno dei loro film più famosi: The Sons of the Desert, ovvero I Figli del Deserto. La sezione italiana storica dell'associazione, Noi Siamo le Colonne, ha contribuito in modo sostanziale alla cura di questo testo, chiedendo l'aiuto di molti membri del club, anche oltreoceano.

This was the first biography I was ever moved to read at my own volition. I had long been a fan of the movies of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Very nice book , affectionate and it has some nice pictures , lists all their films and is good Base to start reading about the boys .
