Siamo nell'Ottocento, quando i genitori di Eddie si ammalano di uno strano morbo. Eddie viene così affidato al pazzo zio Jack e all'ancor più pazza zia Maud, che dovranno condurlo in carrozza nella loro residenza, dal nome sospetto di Villa Sventura. I tre viaggiatori sembra non raggiungano mai la loro meta a causa di disguidi di ogni genere. Non ultima l'apparizione di un inquietante figuro, il capocomico Pumblesnook, che pronosticando a Eddie una brillante carriera di attore, si propone di addestrarlo nell'arte scenica, raccomandandogli soprattutto di "restare sempre nella parte" qualsiasi cosa accada e qualsiasi ostacolo possa presentarsi. My nine year old gave this four stars but I think that was mostly be abuse she insisted I read all the voices it in a British accent. This is by far the best book by Philip Ardagh. I discovered it in the youth seciton of the library (on recommendation of a like minded friend) and found it to be much more then a book for children. Ach ja Eddie Dickens! Skurrile Charaktere und schräge Handlung machen diese Reihe aus. Monty Python lässt grüßen.
Una storia che parla di un Dickens, che è anche un po' alla Dickens (quello vero), e che fondamentalmente fa scompisciare dall'inizio alla fine.
