Certainly an essay that has real resonance considering the current situation of the world. Sartre's struggle to reconcile the suffering Paris endured with the shame of France's quick defeat makes for an emotional read.
My French isn't good enough to read Sartre in the original French, but this translation has made this intellectual work a pleasure to read. Was clearly written more as a piece of propaganda to make him, his people, his city and his country look good and respectable rather than to be a nuanced piece of philosophy and inward reflection.
