Sinossi
Per qualche ragione, Ataru Moroboshi finisce per richiamare continuamente su di sé ogni sorta di sventura. Un giorno, degli alieni dalle sembianze di oni giungono sulla Terra per conquistarla, offrendo però ai terrestri una possibilità di salvezza: se uno di loro, scelto in maniera casuale, riuscirà a toccare entro dieci giorni le corna della giovane e affascinante Lamù, figlia del capo degli oni, il pianeta sarà salvo. Manco a dirlo, a essere scelto per partecipare alla gara sarà proprio Ataru, il cui destino compirà un ulteriore balzo verso la sfortuna... Una tranquilla giornata in spiaggia viene movimentata dall'arrivo di Sakurambo, assoldato per una caccia allo yokai, e dalla famiglia Fujinami, sempre impegnata a ricostruire il proprio chiosco balneare. Nel frattempo Ataru e Mendo, interessati solo alle ragazze in costume, decidono di indagare sulla misteriosa e affascinante donna che si aggira sul fondo del mare! In seguito, durante un furioso litigio fra Ten, che sputa fiamme, e Ataru, che risponde brandendo padelle e coperchi, una macchina cuociriso scagliata nel trambusto generale finisce per colpire in testa Lamù... con conseguenze allucinanti.

There were parts of this I really liked, and I always have a good time poring over Takahashi's panels to see little details like the silly expressions on Kurama's crow attendants, who are maybe half an inch high on the page, if that. A solidly entertaining volume even though it features the first appearance of one of my other least favorite characters in the series, Kitsune. Don’t get me wrong Kitsune is super cute and really sweet but he completely messes with the tone of the stories anytime he’s featured.
Another enjoyable volume. It's neat seeing her advance into the definitive Takahashi style as the series goes on. The art and the gags both continue to tighten. I’ve read all the Japanese originals many times since coming to Japan, and they were helpful explanations of Japanese culture - I felt a bit like the alien Lum to whom everything was new! I like that we got a few more stories where the focus was on Lum and her lady friends, rather than rehashing more Ataru stories. The ladies fighting against a group of wannabe gang girls to recover Benten's mysteriously important "chain".
This installment of Urusei Yatsura features some entertaining adventures. There is a chapter where the love Ataru and Lum share is actually given some level of gravity (those happen once every 30 chapters or so). There also is a very amusing adventure between Ran, Rei, and Kurama with Lum and Ataru
