Mancano però le parole amore, rabbia, terremoto che costelleranno le avventure della nostra imprevedibile protagonista. Eugenia si catapulta, adolescente romana con la sua famiglia "che non fa mai le cose come si deve", in una zona decisamente ruvida di Los Angeles, agli inizi degli anni '90. Attraverso i suoi occhi stupefatti vediamo accumularsi l'amore, la droga e gli eccessi, le amicizie travolgenti e delicate, l'affiorare di una coscienza politica. E poi Los Angeles con una natura selvaggia che affiora dai marciapiedi, dalla terra che trema, dispersa e fluttuante in un disordine alieno di strade e persone. E come un rombo di un aereo intercontinentale lontano nel cielo, la coscienza di Eugenia, con il suo linguaggio emotivo e psichico unici, agisce e sgretola impietosamente il falso mito di un'America idealizzata, dove tutto è in vendita.
