Nel 1965, Tom of Finland iniziò ad accarezzare l'idea di un personaggio fisso per le sue strisce: Tom's Man. Provò con un uomo biondo chiamato Vicky, un nome maschile piuttosto diffuso in Finlandia, per poi passare a Jack, che si ispirava a Tarzan. Alla fine, nel 1968, Tom creò Kake - capelli neri, baffi, abiti in pelle - che spesso indossava una t-shirt bianca molto aderente con la parola "Fucker". Kake era all'altezza di questo appellativo, una sorta di iper-virile Johnny Appleseed post-Stonewall che viaggiava sulla sua motocicletta per spargere i semi di un sessualità gay liberata, reciprocamente soddisfacente ed estaticamente esplicita. Tom viveva molte delle sue fantasie più personali attraverso il suo personaggio, e i fan di Kake in tutto il mondo lo trasformarono nel modello di quello che in seguito sarebbe divenuto noto come il tipico look gay degli anni '70. Tra il 1968 e il 1986, Tom pubblicò 26 episodi delle avventure di Kake, per lo più in libretti di una ventina di pagine. Lent my paperback copy of this to someone and never got it back... but that's fine. I love to spread the love. I only just picked up a new copy, this time in hardcover. That I bought it twice shows how much I enjoy Kake's adventures :)
