L'isola del dottor Moreau racconta la storia di Edward Prendick e del suo naufragio su un'isola remota. Qui incontra il misterioso dottor Moreau, uno scienziato visionario che conduce esperimenti disturbanti e stranianti: trasforma animali in creature umanoidi, dando vita a esseri che sfidano i confini tra uomo e bestia. Prendick assiste a episodi sempre più inquietanti e, man mano che passano i giorni e il turbamento aumenta, scopre la verità sull'isola e sul regime che vi impera. Gli Uomini Bestia vivono sottomessi alle rigide regole della "Legge", grazie alla quale Moreau governa come una divinità. Tuttavia, è un'armonia fragile e la nuova condizione umana imposta alle creature si rivela instabile: travolte dagli istinti primordiali iniziano a regredire, precipitando nuovamente nel caos animale. Prendick riuscirà a fuggire, ma il ricordo di ciò che ha vissuto lo accompagnerà per sempre, trasformandolo nel profondo. Pubblicato nel 1897, "L'isola del dottor Moreau" è un classico senza tempo che affronta questioni scottanti sempre vive, come il rapporto tra scienza ed etica e la teoria dell'evoluzione, e che viene qui riproposto in una nuova attualissima traduzione.
