Elegantissimo nelle sue ambientazioni d'epoca, scritto con un ritmo impeccabile che fa crescere sottilmente la tensione fino alla scena finale, "Il colpo segreto" è anche un romanzo che palpita di umanità, di desiderio, di dilemmi laceranti: una storia d'amore imperfetta in un mondo che ancora si illude della propria perfezione.
