Nina vive a Los Angeles. Cresciuta con la madre, un'esperta truffatrice, da sempre osserva le vite dei ricchi come uno spettacolo a lei precluso. Dopodiché, per lei e il fidanzato Lachlan è fin troppo facile intrufolarsi nelle vite - e nelle case - delle vittime, e portare via oggetti da cui ricavare milioni di dollari. Eppure c'è un profilo che Nina, da tempo, si limita a osservare: quello di Vanessa Liebling, ereditiera e influencer. Quando Nina scopre che la ragazza si è ritirata a Stonehaven, la sua magione sulle fredde rive del lago Tahoe, capisce di aver trovato la vittima perfetta. Ma l'incontro tra Nina e Vanessa porterà a galla un passato comune e mai risolto, sepolto per anni nei meandri di Stonehaven. DNF. The opening character has great depth. The conflict is firmly set in the first forty pages. There is backstory done in flashback that stops the forward motion of the story, but the author motivates it so well I wanted to find out what happened and didn’t mind the detour (in this first section).
