Pinocchio ha due aspetti: da un lato c'è Io sforzo di ammaestrare, di ammonire, preparare alle miserie e alle difficoltà della vita, e certo furono questi gli intenti razionali con cui Collodi si apprestò a scrivere il suo racconto. Ma ciò che rimane vivo del libro è invece quello che gli è sfuggito di mano, in cui Collodi ha trasferito la sua natura più autentica: il ragazzo che scappa, che vuole vivere il lato fantastico della sua infanzia, che si lascia abbagliare dagli incanti e che crede disperatamente alle illusioni. La vitalità di Pinocchio ha scavalcato con le sue secche gambe di legno ogni convenzione, ogni moralismo, ogni moda. Per questo il libro non invecchia, continua a venir tradotto in tutto il mondo, ne vengono tratti film e musical, è oggetto delle interpretazioni più svariate e finisce per essere considerato simbolo dell'umanità intera. Ed è per questo che lo ristampiamo negl'"Istrici", con le illustrazioni di Fiorenzo Faorzi per l'edizione del 1945.

I don’t have kids. I read this for pleasure as a 32-year-old man. And, surprisingly, I definitely enjoyed it. As I made my way through the book, though, I kept trying to picture what a kid would think. It’s very weird. VERY weird, and kind of dark too. This was a challenge and a treat — reading the original story of Pinocchio in Italian!
