Vienna, fine degli anni Cinquanta. Un uomo cammina in un parco senza sapere che presto sarà picchiato da quattro adolescenti. L'uomo - soltanto una delle loro vittime, ignare e casuali - non ha colpa e i ragazzi non vogliono i suoi soldi, non vogliono niente, se non sfogare la loro rabbia in modo feroce e insensato. Sophie, Hans, Rainer, Anna: tutti diversi e tutti accomunati dallo stesso sentimento di disprezzo ed esclusione dalla società e dal futuro, come se qualcuno li avesse chiusi fuori di casa, sprangando la porta per non farli più entrare. In una città ancora assediata dai demoni del nazismo, intrappolata nella sua eredità emotiva e incapace di esorcizzarla, questi quattro ragazzi sembrano reagire a un mondo di maschere e rassegnazione con una logica perversa che li condurrà al limite estremo.
