Duemila anni fa sia il Mediterraneo che l'India attraversarono un periodo particolarmente creativo, che vide gli scritti degli ebrei sulla Chochma, degli gnostici sulla Sophia e dei buddhisti sulla Prajñaparamita, o 'perfezione di sapienza'. La letteratura sulla Prajñaparamita è composta da trentotto libri differenti, elaborati in India tra il 100 a. C. e il 600 d. C. Trenta generazioni di buddhisti in Cina, Giappone, Tibet e Mongolia hanno isolato due libri come i più santi dei santi: il Sutra del diamante, o, più propriamente, la "Perfezione di sapienza che taglia come un diamante", e il Sutra del cuore, ovvero il Sutra che contiene il vero 'cuore', 'fondamento' o 'essenza' della sapienza, ambedue composti nel IV secolo d. C. Gli autori di queste opere erano certamente ben consapevoli che il linguaggio è inadatto a esprimere la profondità di una sapienza il cui fine è arrivare alla totale estinzione dell'io. Ciò nondimeno, i saggi dell'antichità hanno pensato che valesse la pena tentare persino l'impossibile, e forse un qualche beneficio ne verrà nel mettere a disposizione del distratto mondo di oggi la loro opera.

Unless you can read the original, it is good to take two or more different translations and read them parallel (perhaps as practice, with a group). Edward Conze is well known as the primary scholar of the prajnaparamita literature of Indian Buddhism which consists of numerous texts composed around a similar time (~1 BCE to 1 CE) around similar themes.
