Il libro, pubblicato nel 1929, è lo scritto di Hannah Arendt in cui maggiormente emerge l'inquietudine del rapporto con Heidegger. La trattazione dell'amore in Agostino segna l'abbandono di alcuni dei termini di riferimento del pensiero heideggeriano: l'essere per la morte, il presente come tempo della decisione. Oltre a questo, Hannah Arendt mette qui in campo tutta la ricchezza e la complessità dell'opera di Agostino, pensatore in bilico tra due mondi, quello greco e quello cristiano, impegnato in uno "sforzo tremendo ", di cui sono segno le linee interrotte del suo pensiero, credente per il quale non si trattò di "abbandonare le incertezze della filosofia a favore di una verità rivelata, ma di scoprire le implicazioni filosofiche della sua fede".

This is Arendt’s dissertation and it is on love and the philosophy of St. Augustine -and Heidegger was on her committee! I need to do more processing here. Understanding society (a recent concept) and the individual soul was a lifetime passion for Arnedt. This is a very good book, and it is interesting she starts out her major writing career with Augustine.
