Due luoghi opposti e speculari: Venezia, regno della realtà, del giorno, delle certezze; e Belmont, regno dell'illusione, della notte, dei mutamenti. Dominata dagli antagonisti Shylock e Portia, "Il mercante di Venezia" culmina nella scena del processo, in cui Shylock rivendica «una libbra della bella carne» del mercante Antonio per compiere la sua vendetta, e Portia, in veste di giudice, annienta Shylock. Grande commediante e manipolatrice di esistenze altrui, e al tempo stesso donna di limpida sincerità nel suo amore per Bassanio, sarà la stessa Portia a concludere la commedia nella notte magica di Belmont in cui tutti i personaggi, con l'eccezione dello sconfitto Shylock, le si riuniranno attorno, e lei, maga imprevedibile di capricciosa benevolenza, scioglierà i nodi di una vicenda complessa e sfuggente.

As a wise woman in the comments of this review once said, this is a great and underrated work by Billy Shakes depending on how you read the anti-Semitism within it.
