Sinossi
In questa storia raccontata a ritroso, la vita di un criminale di guerra nazista, il dottor Tod T. Friendly, viene narrata a partire dalla sua conclusione, procedendo all'indietro verso l'inizio. Cosi il dottor Friendly muore e in seguito si sente significativamente meglio, rompe con le sue amanti con un gesto che prelude alla loro seduzione; inoltre fa scempio dei propri pazienti prima di mandarli a casa. Fuggendo dal corpo del medico morente, che aveva lavorato come complice dei nazisti nei campi di concentramento, la coscienza del dottor Friendly inizia a vivere la sua vita dal fondo, consapevole soltanto che quella che sta vivendo è la vita di un uomo orribile in un tempo tremendo.
