I poeti d'amore sono una specie estinta, lamenta Ceronetti. Erano d'amore i poeti che morivano giovani, mentre oggi «invecchiano, fanno il beta-bloccante, la ricucitura coronarica, una pastiglia al giorno, conferenze a Harvard, cure per lo stress in Svizzera». Un motivo in più per amare Catullo, che della passione devastatrice ha conosciuto «tutti i gradi: la cristallizzazione stendhaliana, l'adorazione, l'esecrazione, il tradimento, la vergogna della propria schiavitù, eroe del beau rôle e chicchirichì del professor Unrath». E un motivo in più per amare questa traduzione audace, sfrontata, discussa ma «Capace di svelamento» (Sergio Quinzio), Che sposta Catullo «fino alla nostra peculiarità sonora», e che è subito apparsa un'incursione ribalda contro la maniera scolastica che lo teneva in ostaggio e il conformismo delle «ipertrofiche università di morte».

Words and expressions the translator should have thought twice about using: "Treadmill," "French poodle," "syphilitic." Catullus is the OG badass Roman poet. His polyamorous adventures and vicious satirical portraits amply flex his majorly ripped wit, status, and (professed) sexual prowess. Listen to Leggi tutto
