Le difficoltà economiche dell'infanzia ispirarono a Dickens i suoi romanzi migliori (Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Tempi difficili), dal grande contenuto di critica sociale. Nel 1836 il suo editore gli offrì la possibilità di pubblicare un'opera a dispense mensili, "Il circolo Pickwick", che lo avrebbe reso famoso. In quel periodo scrisse anche "Oliver Twist", un romanzo a puntate settimanali in cui illustrò in modo crudo la dura vita dei più poveri, che ebbe un enorme successo. Età di lettura: da 11 anni.
