La storia di Mowgli, il cucciolo d’uomo allevato da un branco di lupi nel cuore della giungla indiana, è uno dei miti letterari più famosi e amati della storia. Via via che affronta una serie di appassionanti avventure che lo trasformeranno da bambino in uomo, Mowgli incontra e stringe amicizia con gli animali della foresta, che si trasformano in altrettanti indimenticabili personaggi: il saggio e scontroso orso Baloo, la pantera nera Bagheera, simbolo del coraggio, e specialmente il pitone bianco Kaa, interprete di concetti mistico-filosofici ispirati alla tradizione indiana. Antagonista assoluta è la tigre, Shere Khan, che incarna la volontà di morte e di distruzione opposta al senso di amicizia e di solidarietà che accomuna gli abitanti della giungla. Il libro della giungla, pubblicato nel 1894, è una favola che non ha mai smesso di affascinare i lettori di tuttele età.
