La paura di essere catturati, il ricordo dei giorni passati in cella, la claustrofobia dei rifugi improvvisati, l'orizzonte che si contrae: ogni dettaglio viene descritto con violenta precisione. L'"astragalo" è apparso sulla scena letteraria francese nel 1965. Il suo stile intenso e feroce, una novità assoluta per quegli anni, possiede la vitalità di un piccolo ruvido classico.

There is something: in the search for freedom, in breaking one's feet in a hurry to get out (and what a hurry, 7 years at 19?), in looking for life, hurrying to get it all... Still, I sort of felt it was all a bit underdeveloped. We got vignettes where a real book could have stood.
When I picked up Astragal (1965) by Albertine Sarrazin the cover told me that it is Patti Smith’s favourite novel. For future reference – never to ask Patti Smith for book recommendations.
