Questo è uno scritto giovanile di Nietzsche: si tratta della prima riflessione teoretica, autonoma e compiuta, del filosofo; egli stesso lo designò nel 1884 come un pro memoria in cui fosse già stato espresso, e in maniera più ardita che nelle opere edite, il proprio modo di pensare. Il testo espone una concezione metaforica della realtà, intesa prospettivisticamente come risultato, sempre in corso di rielaborazione, dell'originaria facoltà metaforizzatrice dell'uomo, capace di creare immagini, suoni, parole, persino i concetti più astratti e lontani dalla vita. Si preannuncia quella svolta radicale nel pensiero occidentale operata da Nietzsche nelle sue più note opere successive. Lo scritto viene affiancato da un altro a esso strettamente connesso e di pochi mesi precedente, "Sul pathos della verità" .

A difficult read, not because of the wording, but the concept. Nonetheless, the bits I managed to grasp broadened how I see the world. "What then is truth? A movable host of metaphors, metonymies, and; anthropomorphisms: in short, a sum of human relations which have been poetically and rhetorically

I read this text back in 2017. I don't recall the words so much as the oblivion I found myself in as Nietzsche left me pondering morality and truth as well as self and others anew.
