Fuori dall'isola non c'è nulla: il mondo è stato distrutto da una fitta nebbia che ha invaso il pianeta, devastando ogni cosa e annientando ogni forma di vita. Gli abitanti del villaggio hanno poche pretese, si accontentano di pescare, coltivare i campi e godere dei frutti della terra e se hanno un dubbio possono appellarsi ad Abi, un'entità che ognuno di loro sente nella propria mente. L'importante è che rispettino sempre il coprifuoco e le regole imposte dagli scienziati. Fino al giorno in cui, con orrore degli isolani, Niema, la scienziata più anziana, viene trovata brutalmente uccisa. Oltre ad aver lasciato l'intera isola sotto shock, l'omicidio ha innescato un abbassamento del sistema di sicurezza intorno all'isola, l'unica cosa che teneva a bada la nebbia. Se il caso non verrà risolto entro 107 ore, la nebbia soffocherà l'isola e tutti i suoi abitanti. Ad aggravare la situazione c'è che il guasto nel sistema ha anche cancellato la memoria di tutti gli abitanti: nessuno ricorda più ciò che è accaduto la notte precedente, il che significa che qualcuno sull'isola è un assassino e non sa di esserlo. Nel frattempo, il tempo stringe.

I feel like this is a book best read two or even three times, because just once left me rather confused. Looking at the title of this book, perhaps you'd immediately guess that it's about two things: a murder, and the end of the world. And you would be right. QUICK TAKE: If you like Turton books, you'll like THE LAST MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD. To give much more away would spoil the fun, but this is a wild ride and did not go where I was expecting.
