Il mondo di Malazan fu creato dallo stesso Erikson e da Ian Cameron Esslemont nei primi anni ottanta come ambientazione per un eventuale gioco di ruolo, ma in seguito i due decisero di trarne spunto per creare la loro opera colossale. Si tratta in totale di una saga di 10 volumi, con un enorme numero di personaggi. Ciascun libro narra un diverso capitolo delle interminabili guerre legate all'Impero Malazan. Ogni volume narra una storia a sé, anche se le vicende di fondo si snodano nei diversi volumi.

This was another excellent edition in Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series. It probably failed to hit the heights of the very best Malazan books I've read but I'd still rate it above Deadhouse Gates in terms of overall quality.
