Raccolta di racconti comico-umoristici di un maestro della forma breve, Michail Zos?enko, che nel corso degli anni Venti, subito dopo la Rivoluzione russa, ha goduto di grande notorietà, descrivendo in modo irriverente e dissacrante i cambiamenti della nuova società sovietica, con i suoi personaggi tipici, gli avanzi di principi e signore aristocratiche, le belle ragazze che restano belle ragazze con relative vicende sentimentali, nonché i pochi quattrini, una realtà vasta di furti e piccole truffe, i capicaseggiato e il diffuso timore delle denunce, i mendicanti burocratizzati, e tante altre situazioni anche deplorevoli e assurde, nel grande terremoto che ha rivoltato ogni cosa. I racconti, in genere usciti su riviste dell'epoca, vanno dai primi anni Venti fino alla metà dei Quaranta, quando Zos?enko è costretto al silenzio dal potere sovietico. La scelta dei testi, finora inediti in italiano, è di Sergio Pescatori (1941-2015) cui si deve anche la traduzione; un suo ampio saggio traccia il profilo dello scrittore.

Wonderful selection of short stories from this great Russian writer, some biting humour at the expense of the Bolsheviks, I am not sure how he avoided the gulag! I laughed out loud on the train to work while reading the book.
Gosh, this should be called Depressing Tales NOT Sentimental Tales. But I love depressing tales so this was amazing. The first two were my favourites.
