Incontriamo un ragazzo che per un incidente ha perso l'uso di una mano, un altro che vede il padre abbandonare la casa mentre la mamma dà alla luce il fratellino, un terzo che è invidioso del fratellino adottivo appena arrivato dal Pakistan. E poi una ragazza tormentata da una gang e un'altra che vede la madre vedova risposarsi...
Potok esplora momenti di difficoltà, ma descrive anche il modo in cui è possibile superarle: perché ogni volta c'è un amico, magari un anziano Navaho o una sorella maggiore, che aiutano a crescere e a superare il disagio.

We discover authors and books in library stacks and good book stores. Some years back I meandered across Chaim Potok and read The Chosen. I followed this with other works of his, enjoying each. maybe not potok’s best work, but i really enjoyed it. my favourite story was ‘zebra,’ the first one. he’s such a master at creating compelling characters.
