Questa nuova traduzione dell'"Estetica" di Hegel assume come testo canonico l'edizione postuma curata da H. G. Homo, pubblicata tra il 1835 e il 1838. In nota al testo sono state inserite le varianti più significative tratte dal nuovo materiale di appunti e trascrizioni degli studenti relativo alle lezioni di estetica tenute da Hegel a Berlino nel 1820/1821, nel 1823 e nel 1826, di cui nell'ultimo decennio si è intrapresa la pubblicazione. L'"Estetica" di Hegel rappresenta lo sforzo più grandioso, per ampiezza e profondità, di attraversamento e comprensione storico-concettuale dell'arte nella civiltà occidentale. L'introduzione delinea lo statuto ontologico della dimensione artistica; segue una prima parte dedicata alla concatenazione sistematica delle varie forme dell'arte; da ultimo si traccia una visione complessiva dello sviluppo storico delle arti, inteso come movimento progressivo dello spirito verso la conoscenza di sé, scandito secondo tre periodi: simbolico, classico e romantico.

Given Hegel's reputation, this is relatively easy to read and even enjoyable: the state as the absolute reason, laws as the objectification of reason, history as the development of state/reason through dialectic, and so on.
