Durante la guerra per il controllo della galassia tra le armate del Lato Oscuro e quelle della Repubblica, il conte Dooku, ex Maestro Jedi divenuto spietato Signore dei Sith, ha deciso di ricorrere a strategie sempre più brutali. Malgrado i poteri dei Jedi e la forza militare del loro esercito di cloni, il numero delle vittime aumenta di giorno in giorno; quando Dooku ordina il massacro di una flottiglia di profughi inermi, il Consiglio dei Jedi decide di intervenire drasticamente, prendendo di mira l'uomo responsabile di tutte quelle atrocità. L'inafferrabile Dooku, però, è una preda pericolosa anche per i cacciatori più abili, e così il Consiglio decide coraggiosamente di unire i due lati della Forza, ricorrendo al cavaliere Jedi Quinlan Vos e alla famigerata ex seguace Sith Asajj Ventress. Nonostante i Jedi fatichino a fidarsi dell'astuta assassina che un tempo aveva servito proprio Dooku, l'odio di Ventress nei confronti del suo Maestro è puro, e per questo l'ex Sith concederà a Vos i suoi talenti di cacciatrice di taglie. Insieme, Ventress e Vos rappresentano l'unica speranza di eliminare Dooku, purché i sentimenti che provano l'uno per l'altra non finiscano per compromettere la missione: Ventress è più che mai decisa a vendicarsi del suo ex Maestro, a lasciarsi alle spalle l'oscuro passato Sith, e tra gli impulsi che nutre per Vos e la rabbia del suo spirito guerriero cercherà la mediazione in grado di farla vincere su tutti i fronti... Ma questo proposito sarà messo alla prova dal suo nemico più mortale, oltre che dai suoi stessi dubbi.

I very much enjoyed this book. Loved Vos and Ventress and their complicated relationship. Loved the depiction of the Dark Side and the one scene where Vos truly crosses over was chilling.
