Da quasi trent'anni la famiglia di Sierra coltiva "alberi di Natale" in un grande vivaio dell'Oregon. E ogni inverno si trasferisce per un mese in California per venderli. Sierra vive perciò due vite: una in Oregon e l'altra in California, ma solo per il periodo natalizio. Finché si trova lì si è ripromessa di non legarsi a nessun ragazzo, perché sarebbe doloroso poi, dopo solo un mese, doverlo lasciare. Ma quando incontra Caleb, tutto cambia. Certo, da quel che si dice in giro, non è proprio il fidanzato ideale. Pare infatti che, anni prima, abbia commesso un errore enorme, del quale sta continuando a pagare le conseguenze, fatte di ostilità, pregiudizi e isolamento. Ma a Sierra tutto questo non interessa. Anche se migliaia di pensieri le ronzano in testa minacciando di distoglierla dal momento magico che sta vivendo, forse vale la pena di chiudere gli occhi, lasciarsi andare e mandare al diavolo la logica. Dopo tutto, la logica non sa quello che desideri e che quello che conta, alla fine, è l'amore. Vero, puro, necessario. Come il loro.

Beautifully written, this sweet & simple story enveloped me. While aptly addressing very real struggles many teens may face, Mr. Asher also captures and conveys the pure joy that young folks experience, create & selflessly share.
