Karina ha vent'anni, ma ha già imparato sulla propria pelle quanto la vita possa essere complicata e le relazioni fragili. Per questo, dopo il divorzio dei genitori e anni di traslochi da una città all'altra per via del lavoro del padre, ora è in cerca con tutte le sue forze di certezze e stabilità. Per ricominciare ha scelto un lavoro tranquillo e un piccolo appartamento, bisognoso di qualche riparazione, come il suo cuore, che da tempo si è decisa a non ascoltare. Un giorno, però, incontra Kael, che l'attira a sé con i suoi modi gentili e rassicuranti. Kael è riservato, paziente e un ottimo ascoltatore. Quando è con lui, i dubbi e le insicurezze di Karina si dissipano e il rumore della sua vita caotica sembra magicamente affievolirsi. Ma Kael non è quello che sembra. C'è qualcosa sotto quella facciata calma e rasserenante, uno spirito ribelle, che non sa stare dentro schemi troppo rigidi. Per Karina, però, è ormai troppo tardi e, nonostante la sua ostinata resistenza, si trova coinvolta in un nuovo vortice, in un nuovo mondo ancora più oscuro del suo, e pieno di passione.
