Michel organizzerà la sua personale resistenza con un curioso gruppo di alleati - un professore di lettere senza più studenti, uno zio sognatore, un musicista in incognito e una giovane e saggia ragazza - con cui proverà a fronteggiare un nemico ben più potente di loro, il demone dell'elettricità. Scritto nel 1863 e riscoperto solo nel 1994, in Parigi nel XX secolo l'autore presagisce l'avvento di reti metropolitane e treni ad aria compressa, dei grattacieli e perfino della sedia elettrica, in un romanzo visionario e dolente che smentisce la fama di Verne come ottimista cantore del progresso.

Disappointing. Verne is known for stories of adventure. There is absolutely no adventure here. Just descriptions of 1960's Paris as imagined by Verne in 1860's.
