Uno scrittore cerca pace e ispirazione percorrendo lentamente la costa piovosa e nebbiosa dell'Irlanda. È l'inizio di un lungo viaggio che lo porterà dapprima in Belgio e successivamente a Lubiana e Sarajevo, ma ogni viaggio, si sa, prima o poi diventa anche esplorazione interiore. Sono quelle di narratori senza Paese che popolano un continente fatto di molti Paesi, come Gjini, autista albanese e guida turistica occasionale; Jane, una donna irlandese-americana; Spomenka, professoressa di letteratura emigrata dall'ex Jugoslavia; un pubblico casuale a un evento letterario a Bruxelles; un poeta di Sarajevo; e altri... Tutti in qualche modo sono alla ricerca di qualcosa che si potrebbe chiamare «casa».

I read the English translation of this, and it's excellent, reminiscent, at times, of the writing of Sebald (whose work is referenced in the book) and László Krasznahorkai.
