Interesting overview of the globe and its history, but saddened that almost every map was about war. I'd love to see a companion volume about art, literature, science, discovery, music and so on that didn't have a single war reference in it. Got this as a Christmas present for my mom this year -- I know she's going to love it. She's obsessed with maps and this book has a fantastic layout; it is also incredibly interesting to read!

This is only the Political History, so consists ONLY of short paragraphs listing dates and key military/political men. There is nothing here to integrate any of the conflicts or conquests into a coherent story, the way Jared Diamond, Yuval Harari, or Mann do. So nothing here remains memorable, excep Leggi tutto
The maps are stunning but the book itself is very inaccurate. The author calls Russia and Russian territories and states that didn't even exist before 1721. For example, he calls the territories captured by the Mongols Russian, but they were part of the Tsardom of Muscovy. Kievan Rus' is simply call Leggi tutto
