Suicidio. Questo sostiene la polizia. Ma la vittima, Ian Druitt, diacono dell’incantevole cittadina medioevale di Ludlow, è deceduta mentre era sotto custodia cautelare con l’accusa di un crimine vergognoso. Quando anche l’inchiesta degli Affari Interni conferma che non c’è nulla di sospetto in quanto accaduto, il caso sembra chiuso. Ma la famiglia della vittima non accetta questa versione dei fatti.
