Sinossi

This is my 1000th review!!! Woooo-hoooo!!!! One thousand, handcrafted and aged to perfect...ly acceptable reviews. That's time and effort all given voluntarily to Goodreads. Once upon a time you'd receive payment for content like that. Hell, even I'm old enough to have been paid by newspapers for my Leggi tutto
Number 7 in the Sharpe series. The year is 1809 and Marshal Soult’s French army is in control of Oporto in northern Portugal. General Arthur Wellesley has arrived back in Portugal and is about to mount an offensive against Marshal Soult’s and Lt. Richard Sharpe is, once again, in the thick of things. B Leggi tutto
Starting with a desperate evacuation of a town as an invading French army completes its conquest of northern Portugal and a pontoon bridge fails and sends hundreds of civilians to their crushed, watery deaths and ending with a freakily similar battle at another bridge in which the French receive mor Leggi tutto
God, the cover. Honestly, what the hell was the publisher thinking with such an atrocious eyesore? It's kinda tiny on the site, so allow me to briefly describe it: it's this ugly orangeish-brownish blurry picture of a dragoon on his horse with a horribly low-res floating gun pointed at him . Really, Leggi tutto
If you're reading this, it's almost certainly not your first Sharpe book. So you know what you're going to get. Interesting military history through the lens of the POV of a rough-and-tumble soldier on the come-up. A bit of dry humor. Exciting battles and interesting tactical analysis. This book del Leggi tutto
the most complete technically speaking Sharpe book show far (7th in). there is a bit of a disconnect because Havoc was written 15 year after Rifles and Eagles. but most of that is felt after Havoc and the beginning of Sharpe's Eagles. Non stop action with little lull between fights. Sharpe is as ful Leggi tutto
My favorite series. Bernard Cornwell's books are timeless tales of an anti-hero bucking the system and using his smarts to outwit the folks who feel superiority is based on both wealth and birth. I have been reading these books for over ten years now, and Sharpe's struggle through the ranks, his cou Leggi tutto
Good grief. Thus far, Sharpe's Havoc is easily the weakest installment of the series. The trope of the treasonous British officer was overused two books back and this time Sharpe does not even have anything interesting to do for most of the novel, hanging around for around a hundred pages at a mansio Leggi tutto
Another solid addition to the saga of the soldier turned officer in the time of the Napoleonic wars. This time Richard Sharpe is once again separated from his regiment and fighting in some skirmishes on the fringe of the northern Portugal campaign of 1809. Cornwell shows once again how well he can we Leggi tutto
As always, Cornwell has crafted a gritty adventure, featuring his hero/ anti-hero, Lt Sharpe. Sharpe and his men have been lost behind French lines in Portugal and have been tasked to rescue an English girl. These orders are superseded by an English 'gentleman' and they end up having to stay behind
