All'inizio è solo un puntino sul radar della Oregon, la nave ipertecnologica capitanata da Juan Cabrillo, di ritorno da una missione top secret in Iran. Un puntino che segnala un'imbarcazione alla deriva. Eppure nessuno ha raccolto SOS. Cabrillo, che è sempre pronto a intervenire quando si tratta di difendere il mare e chi sul mare vive e lavora, decide di vederci chiaro. Ma nemmeno lui, che ha vissuto avventure di ogni genere, è pronto a ciò che lo aspetta. Il ponte della Golden Dawn è disseminato di cadaveri, così come la sala macchine, l'infermeria, il salone delle feste e ogni angolo dell'elegante nave da crociera. Il virus - se di virus si tratta - sembra aver colpito nel bel mezzo di una festa, visto che tutti i morti sono in eleganti abiti da sera. Chi - o che cosa - può aver causato un simile massacro? Ma per Cabrillo non c'è da risolvere solo il terrificante mistero della nave dei morti. Il figlio del suo vice Max Hanley è infatti scomparso dopo essere stato plagiato dai responsivisti, una setta che predica la sterilizzazione dei propri membri per risolvere il problema della sovrappopolazione sulla Terra. E forse il fatto che a bordo della Golden Dawn ci fosse una convention di responsivisti non è un caso?

No deep, insightful review. I just love Clive Cussler books! I don't look for character development or inconsistencies like so many reviewers do. My sole criteria is did I enjoy it? I very rarely have difficulty immersing myself in Clive Cussler's books and have immensely enjoyed each of his series
Rating 2* out of 5. Abandoned on page 367. I just cannot be bothered anymore. This is an ordinary run-of-the-mill thriller with lots of action and no character development.
