Sullo sfondo della guerra di Troia, giunta ormai al settimo anno, si consuma l’infelice storia d’amore fra Troilo, il più giovane figlio di Priamo, e Cressida, figlia dell’indovino Calcante passato nel campo greco. Costretti a separarsi, i due amanti mettono alla provai loro sentimenti: mentre Troilo si conferma campione di fedeltà, la fanciulla, assecondando una naturale inclinazione alla falsità e all’inganno, cede alle lusinghe del greco Diomede. Shakespeare rielabora con originalità la tradizione classica e le fonti medievali, a cominciare da Chaucer, calando tutta la “materia di Troia” in una visione amara e pessimistica della vita. Satira della cavalleria e dell’amore cortese, la dark comedy mette in scena un’umanità corrotta e lasciva, e getta una luce spietata sul mondo dell’epica smitizzando eros ed eroismi.

Originally, I rated this play 3 stars. But then I watched a fantastic adaption and liked the play a lot more. Upon rereading it I kind of loved it.
